Paste Magazine suspends print publication
This breaks my heart (again).

Today Paste Media Group announces, with deepest sadness, the suspension of the Paste magazine print product.
Struggles with mounting debt were made public last year when our readers responded with generosity to save the magazine. But the prolonged downturn of the ad market has forced a hiatus. All subscribers have access to the digital version of their magazines through the June/July issue on PasteMagazine.com. Paste, while considering strategic alternatives, is focusing on its digital assets, including PasteMagazine.com.
We thank all of those who have shown such tremendous support to a vision of independent media focused on Signs of Life in Music, Film & Culture, including subscribers, advertisers, writers, photographers, illustrators, publicists, record labels, movie studios, book & game publishers and others in the press.

I was checking out iTunes today and saw that one of our songs (“Valerie” from the album “The Sunday Best”) is included on this iTunes iMix called “Austin Greats.” The mix features some really good Austin bands–it’s great to be included. Check it out below.

I dig this promo movie for the album ‘Stil Leven’ (or ‘Still Life’) by Dutchman Goslink Harm Kuiper. In the video, he shows a wide variety of instruments that he has built. You get to hear some of the album and see part of a live performance.

Video: ‘Bassoforte’ by Diego Stocco
In this video, Diego Stocco re-purposes the keyboard of the dismantled piano that he keeps in the garden and builds a new instrument by combining it with some other parts he had laying around.
Diego writes:
I ended up with this mechanical hybrid thing I thought to call “Bassoforte” (bass + pianoforte). The neck is from a broken electric bass, as a bridge I used a cabinet handle, the pickups are from a guitar, and the part at the top where the strings are attached is a chimney cap, which works as resonator as well as percussive sound. The track I created is a tribute to my Dad who is a big fan of Western comic books and “spaghetti western” films, and because of him I am too.
