“I’m Free” was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and first released as the final track on side two of the British version of the Out of Our Heads album on September 24, 1965.
“I’m Free” was later placed on the Stones album December’s Children (And Everybody’s) in the United States. I first heard this version of the song by the Soup Dragons.
The title for the “Lovesong” video should be “Bob and The Cure Boys Versus the Slimy Stalagmites.”
Bob first appears to be alone in a cave. Next, he focuses on his hand and appears to visually hallucinate the band’s keyboard player into existence. In what may be the only highlight of the video, Bob promptly crushes the keyboard player’s head (à la Kids in the Hall) at 1:10.
Here’s the Kids in the Hall video, which is embeddable:
This week’s Flashback Friday video comes by request. Enjoy this live performance by James Brown (The Godfather of Soul, Soul Brother Number One, Mr. Dynamite, The Hardest Working Man in Show Business, etc.) at the Olympia in 1966. Make it funky.
Whew. This barely made it through editorial in time. But like a lover’s voice across the mountainside, it stayed alive. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this flashback performance from Top of the Pops (in 1983 according to the YouTubes).
This is such a great video. This live performance by Wilson Pickett (a.k.a. The Wicked Pickett) is chock full of people having a great time. I’m not sure when it was recorded. I hope you’ll get out on Funky Broadway tonight. Lord have mercy, indeed.
